The role:
To test, calibrate, operate and repair electrical, mechanical, electromechanical, electrohydraulic, or
electronic measuring and recording instruments, apparatus, and equipment in use within the laboratory
As a Senior Calibration Technician your main duties will be:
? Operation of and adherence to
procedures defined within the quality
? The conduct of traceable & UKAS
accredited calibrations under ISO 9001 &
BS EN ISO/IEC 17025 quality systems,
respectively (following training).
? Contribute to the development of the
laboratory systems and processes to
improve the business performance
? When required mentor and supervise
junior technicians on the aspects of the
? The production of calibration and test
? Instrument fault diagnosis and some
minor repairs
? Understand the working of variety of
complex pieces of instrumentation as well
as their technical specifications, and the
methods that can be used to calibrate
? Liaison with clients advising them on
instrument use / repair / replacements.
? If required in-house demonstrations of
product use to customers
? Following training the production of
testing and calibration procedures using
bespoke laboratory calibration
management software
? Assistance to the internal sales desk
dealing with technical queries
? Order processing, booking in and dispatch
of hire and calibration work
? The testing, calibration and
maintenance/repair of hire stock
of instruments, Client equipment,
laboratory equipment and any other
associated equipment required to ensure
that their performance meets established
acceptance criteria
? Preparation and packing of rental
instruments prior to their hire
? Development of process calibration and
testing control systems
? If required, occasional on-site visits to setup
and remove rental equipment
? Helping in the continued conformity with
the requirements contained in ISO 9001
(BSI) and ISO 17025 (UKAS) through
procedures defined within the Quality
Manual. These are to include the
maintenance of the quality system
through record keeping and the testing of
laboratory reference instrumentation
? Work in a team promoting equality,

The successful candidate:
To be successful in this role you will possess the following Skills and Knowledge:
? Experience of working in a calibration laboratory to ISO 9001 or ISO17025
? Ideally previous experience in a UKAS accredited laboratory in the field of electrical calibrations
OR relevant experience in the fields of temperature, pressure, humidity and air velocity
? Minimum BTEC in Electrical Engineering or similar
? Knowledge of the production of uncertainty budgets
? Methodical with a practical ability including diagnostic skills
? Excellent customer service skills
? Excellent analytical skills
? A good communicator
? Numerate and literate as the work involves rudimentary calculations and a significant amount of
written materials
? PC literate with a working knowledge of Microsoft software packages
? Use of specialist laboratory software packages such as LabView or IndySoft
? Ability to work unsupervised to meet deadlines


This role’s working pattern is 37 hours per week, Mon – Thursday 8.30am-5pm and on Friday 8.30am4.30pm. Benefits include a Pension Scheme and 26 days holiday per year (pro rata), childcare vouchers, etc. This is an office based role
