Description

Are you looking for a meaningful role where you can make a real difference every day? We are seeking a caring, patient and dependable Autism School Support Assistant to join the team at a Special School, supporting pupils aged 8–16 with autism and social, emotional and communication needs.

This is a full-time role (Monday to Friday, 8.30am – 3.30pm), starting ASAP with a supportive 16-week settling-in period. After this, there’s strong potential to become permanent for the right person. You’ll earn £13.70 per hour while helping young people access learning, feel safe and build confidence.

About the school:

The school is a specialist provision supporting young people with a diagnosis of autism and associated complex needs, offering education tailored to each pupil’s strengths and challenges in a calm, structured setting. The school provides personalised learning and therapeutic support that helps pupils develop socially, emotionally and academically. Staff build trusting, positive relationships that encourage pupils to engage, regulate their emotions and enjoy learning. Small class sizes and dedicated support help pupils thrive and achieve positive outcomes.
The school has a Good judgement in its most recent Ofsted monitoring and material change inspection, recognising the quality of the school’s work in creating supportive, nurturing environments where pupils can make progress.

What you’ll be doing:

• Supporting pupils with autism and communication needs throughout the school day
• Helping students access the curriculum and feel comfortable in the classroom
• Encouraging positive behaviour, engagement and independence
• Working alongside teachers and support staff to create a supportive learning atmosphere
• Being a calm, reassuring presence who pupils can trust

Who we’re looking for:

You could be a local graduate, youth worker, sports coach, existing support worker or teaching assistant looking for purposeful work.

You’ll thrive in this role if you’re:

• Kind, patient and understanding
• A good communicator with a positive outlook
• Able to stay calm and consistent with young people
• Motivated to help others grow and succeed
• Are resilient and flexible
