Position: Learning Support Assistant (LSA) – Specialist Support for Down Syndrome
Location: SW17, London
Contract Type: Full-Time, Monday to Friday (term-time)
Salary: Paid to scale
Start Date: Monday 22nd September
About the Role:
We are seeking a compassionate, dedicated, and enthusiastic Learning Support Assistant to join our inclusive and supportive school community in SW17. This full-time role involves providing 1:1 and small group support to a primary-aged pupil with Down syndrome, helping them access the curriculum and thrive socially, emotionally, and academically.
Key Responsibilities:
• Provide tailored support to meet the individual needs of a pupil with Down syndrome
• Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and external specialists
• Use visual aids, structured routines, and multi-sensory approaches to enhance learning
• Support with communication development, using tools such as Makaton or PECS (training provided if needed)
• Promote independence, social interaction, and confidence in the classroom and during unstructured times
• Assist with personal care, if required (training provided)
Requirements
• Previous experience supporting children with additional needs (ideally Down syndrome)
• A calm, patient, and nurturing approach
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• A genuine passion for inclusive education
• Relevant qualifications (e.g., Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant or equivalent) are desirable but not essential
