A council in the East Midlands are looking for an Environmental Protection Officer to join them on a 3-4 month contract. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled professional to contribute to the protection and improvement of environmental quality, supporting regulatory compliance and community wellbeing. The role offers a dynamic working environment with a strong focus on delivering high-quality environmental services.

The successful candidate will be responsible for undertaking a varied caseload of environmental protection work, including the investigation and resolution of statutory nuisance complaints such as noise, odour, smoke, and other environmental impacts. You will carry out site inspections, gather evidence, liaise with residents and businesses, and take appropriate enforcement action where necessary. A strong understanding of relevant legislation and the ability to manage complex casework independently are essential.  The post would be suitable for an experienced EP officer with proven investigative skills, experience of serving legal notices and a good understanding of nuisance law.

Applicants have demonstrable experience in environmental protection, particularly in nuisance investigation and enforcement. Strong communication, analytical, and organisational skills are key, along with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

The post could be either full time or part time. The role would depend upon the experience of the candidate , but will include responding to nuisance complaints, site visits, deploying monitoring equipment and interpreting data.
