Description
Axcis Education are looking for individuals experienced in supporting special education needs and disabilities to work at an ASD-specific special school. Classroom experience is preferred. A background of experience within other areas such as community support, care or personal life experience is essential.
Job Details
• Provide one-to-one or small-group support for autistic pupils with complex needs
• Assist with physical and personal care needs, including toileting, feeding, mobility, and medical needs where appropriate (training provided).
• Support pupils in accessing the curriculum using specialist equipment, communication aids, and sensory materials.
• Promote pupils’ independence, confidence, and self-esteem.
• Prepare learning resources under the guidance of teaching staff.
• Support in delivering lessons adapted to pupils individual needs
• Provide feedback to teachers on student progress and challenges.
• Work collaboratively with teaching staff, therapists (e.g. speech & language, physio), and families.
• Start Date: September 2025
• Duration: Whole of the 2025/26 academic year (September 2025 - July 2026)
Type of SEND Support experience required:
- Complex/Profound Autism
- Distressing/challenging behaviour towards themselves and adults
- Sensory and Emotional Dysregulation
- Non-verbal Communication (Makaton and PECS - preferred but not essential)
- Personal care needs
Other Requirements
• Experience in working on a one to one and/or small group basis – Essential
• Experience of working with pupils who are profoundly autistic – Essential
• Experience of supporting needs such as non/pre-verbal communication, sensory and emotional dysregulation, challenging/distressing behaviour and personal care – Essential
• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service required or we’re happy to carry out a new one ahead of you starting the position – Essential
• Minimum of 2 good references – Essential
