Works Manager (Highways)
Location: Wakefield
Start: 3rd November 2025
End: May 2026
£300 - £320 per shift
I am recruiting for an experienced Freelance Works Manager to join a reputable sub-contractor, supporting the delivery of a major highways and infrastructure project in the Wakefield area. The works form part of a Roundabout upgrade, delivered under a larger, ongoing infrastructure improvements Framework.
The successful candidate will play a key role in managing on-site operations, ensuring the safe, efficient, and high-quality delivery of the civil works package – including earthworks, drainage, kerbing, surfacing, and associated structures.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Daily supervision and coordination of site operations for the roundabout works package.
• Manage labour, plant, and subcontractor activities to meet programme and quality targets.
• Ensure site compliance with HSEQ standards, RAMS, and permit systems.
• Liaise closely with Main Contractors site management, the client team, and stakeholders.
• Maintain accurate site records, reporting progress, resource usage, and issues.
• Support the delivery of temporary works, traffic management, and logistics planning.
REQUIREMENT:
• Proven background as a Works Manager, General Foreman on highways / civils projects.
• Experience managing road construction, drainage, and roundabout schemes.
• CSCS, SMSTS (or SSSTS) and First Aid required.
• Excellent understanding of safety, quality, and temporary works procedures.
• Strong communication and coordination skills across multi-disciplinary teams.
• Ability to work autonomously under a main contractor environment.
