Are you a compassionate and resilient Learning Support Assistant with a passion for helping children overcome emotional barriers to learning? Axcis Education is working with a thriving primary school in Ilminster that is looking for a dedicated LSA to provide 1:1 support to a KS1 pupil with SEMH challenges stemming from early childhood trauma.
About the Role:
This is a high-impact support role focusing on emotional regulation, consistent boundaries, and building trust with a young child who has faced significant adversity. Your consistent and sturdy presence will be key to helping this pupil access learning, develop positive coping strategies, and feel safe in the classroom.
You will:
• Work 1:1 with a KS1 child throughout the school day.
• Support emotional and behavioural needs using a trauma-informed approach.
• Promote a calm, structured environment and encourage engagement with class activities.
• Adapt learning materials to suit the child’s needs and help reinforce teacher-led instruction.
• Log behavioural incidents and progress notes for the wider pastoral/SEND team.
• Communicate regularly with class teachers, SENCO and, where appropriate, parents or carers.
This role would suit someone who:
• Has previous experience supporting children with SEMH needs or trauma-informed practice
• Is calm, patient, and consistent in their approach
• Understands the importance of emotional safety and relational support in early years education
• Can set clear boundaries and reinforce positive behaviour
• Is confident working independently and as part of a team
• Holds an Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service (or is willing to apply)
Key Details:
Location: Ilminster
Pay: £89 per day, paid weekly
Hours: 8:15am – 3:30pm, Monday to Friday
Contract: Full-time, long-term with the potential to become permanent
