Learning Support Assistant – Mainstream College (Vocational Subjects)

Location: Plumstead, SE18
Hours: Monday to Friday, 9:00am – 5:00pm
Interviews: ASAP
Start Date: September 2026

We are looking for enthusiastic Learning Support Assistants to join a mainstream college in Plumstead, SE18, supporting students with additional needs including ASD, SEMH, epilepsy, and other complex needs across a variety of vocational subjects.

This is a fantastic opportunity to work within a college environment, supporting students to access and succeed in practical courses such as:

About the Role

You will work alongside lecturers and college staff to provide 1:1 and small group support, ensuring students with additional needs can fully participate in their chosen vocational subjects.

This role requires a patient, proactive, and flexible individual who can support students with a range of needs while promoting independence, confidence, and personal development.

Key Responsibilities
Provide 1:1 or small group support for students with ASD, SEMH, epilepsy, and other additional needs.
Support students to engage with practical vocational subjects and classroom learning.
Help manage behaviour and implement positive reinforcement strategies where required.
Assist students with any additional medical or personal care needs during college hours.
Work collaboratively with teaching staff to support individual learning plans.
Promote independence, communication, social skills, and confidence in vocational settings.
The Ideal Candidate
Experience supporting young people with ASD, SEMH, epilepsy, or other additional needs is desirable but not essential.
Calm, patient, and adaptable with strong interpersonal skills.
Confident supporting students with behaviour needs using positive and proactive strategies.
Able to work effectively as part of a team and support across a range of practical subjects.
Enthusiastic and committed to helping students reach their full potential.
Willingness to learn and develop within a SEND/college support role is welcomed.
