Description
Our client is a leading telecommunications provider operating across the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man, delivering advanced connectivity and technology services to businesses and communities. An opportunity has arisen to join the Mobile team as a Mobile Packet Core Engineer, supporting the continued evolution and performance of the organisation’s mobile network infrastructure.
Role
Working 37.5 hours per week, the successful candidate will ensure the reliable operation, maintenance and evolution of the organisation’s Mobile Core network, including CS, EPC, IMS and associated platforms. The role supports high availability and performance for Packet Switched (PS) and Circuit Switched (CS) services, including technologies such as VoLTE and 5G Core.
The role will also act as a subject matter expert for Packet Core services, supporting integration, troubleshooting and optimisation across the mobile network environment. In addition, the position will support the growth of NB-IoT, CAT-M and IoT services, including platform and customer support.
Key responsibilities
• Operate and maintain EPC, IMS and CS core network components ensuring compliance with KPIs and SLAs
• Monitor, configure and support upgrades of core network elements including MME, SGW, PGW, PCRF, HSS and IMS nodes
• Analyse performance metrics to optimise network capacity and service quality
• Troubleshoot signalling protocols including Diameter, SIP, SS7 and GTP
• Support roaming services and manage IP connectivity for GRX and interconnect partners
• Support value-added services including SMS, signalling solutions and voice services
• Contribute to the development and support of new products and services across the mobile network
• Support the growth of IoT services including NB-IoT and CAT-M integrations
• Participate in network expansion projects, capacity planning and software upgrades
• Work with security teams to ensure network infrastructure remains secure and compliant
Person specification
• Strong understanding of 2G, 4G and 5G mobile networking and associated core technologies
• Experience with mobile core nodes including MME, SGW, PGW, PCRF, HSS, AMF, UPF and SMF
• Understanding of IMS components and telecom virtualised environments
• Knowledge of signalling protocols including SIP, Diameter, SS7 and GTP
• Knowledge of IP networking including routers, switches and dynamic routing protocols
• Strong communication and collaboration skills
• Flexible approach to work including participation in a callout rota
• Ability to adapt to new technologies within a rapidly evolving telecoms environment
