Description

A South London Council is seeking an experienced Private Sector Housing Manager to lead a large, multidisciplinary team within its Public Realm service. This senior role is responsible for overseeing private sector housing functions including HMO and Selective Licensing, housing standards enforcement, public health, drainage, and pest control. You will drive operational performance, ensure compliance with legislation, and play a key role in shaping policy, service delivery, and strategic direction.

You will lead on enforcement activity, ensuring inspections, legal notices, prosecutions, and works in default are delivered to a high technical and legal standard. The role involves managing budgets, contributing to commissioning and tendering exercises, and working closely with internal teams and external stakeholders such as landlords, emergency services, and partner agencies. You will also handle complex cases, respond to high-level enquiries, and ensure the service meets performance targets while delivering excellent outcomes for residents.

Applicants must hold a degree or diploma in Environmental Health (or equivalent) and be EHORB registered (or able to obtain registration within a probationary period). You must have demonstrable experience managing a similar private sector housing or enforcement team within a Local Authority setting. Strong leadership, decision-making, and communication skills are essential, along with the ability to manage competing priorities and drive continuous improvement.

This role offers a day rate of £500–£700 Umbrella, depending on experience.
