Description

SEMH Teaching assistant

Axcis are currently helping a long established special needs school in Bath in securing staffing to fill teaching assistant posts with them for long term commitments. The school is currently looking for people to work full time for with them starting as soon as possible in their secondary phase however primary can still be considered. As with all school work, working hours are 8:30-3:30 Monday to Friday and term time only. This school specialises in teaching students with mental health difficulties as well as those that can present with autism. Many students can come from difficult home lives as well as foster care. So for many students they can have a distrust in adults, therefore we are looking for people that can work to shift that mentality, be consistent and and in time change that perception.

These children can present with a lot of challenges, so perseverance is a must, since once a relationship has been built and barriers brought down, that time is when you can really make a massive difference to a young life. We are looking for people that are resilient, can show empathy and understanding but also maintain professional boundaries and expectations with the students.

The school have a great team in place and are brilliant in moving things round to get staff matched with students they are most likely to build a rapport with. School experience is desirable but we can still consider people that have worked with mental health and children in other ventures.

The school is easy to reach on public transport and is south side of the city in Bath. In order to apply and be considered a enhanced DBS is required and should be on the update service, otherwise one will need to be applied for as part of the application.
