The Role – SEN Learning Support Assistant
As an SEN Learning Support Assistant in Tooting, SW17 7DF, you will play a vital role in supporting students both inside and outside the classroom. The successful SEN Learning Support Assistant will work closely with teachers, therapists, and pastoral teams to ensure pupils can access learning and develop confidence, independence, and emotional regulation skills.

Key Responsibilities
Provide one-to-one and small group support for students with SEMH and additional SEN needs
Support pupils in managing emotions, behaviour, and social interactions
Assist teachers in delivering engaging and differentiated lessons
Build positive and trusting relationships with pupils
Encourage participation, independence, and positive learning behaviours
Support pupils during unstructured times, transitions, and enrichment activities
Work collaboratively with teaching staff, therapists, and external professionals
Maintain a safe, inclusive, and nurturing learning environment
Implement behaviour support strategies consistently and effectively
Monitor and record pupil progress and wellbeing where required
Skills, Knowledge & Experience Required
Previous experience working with children or young people with SEN, SEMH, ASD, ADHD, or behavioural needs
Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills
Ability to remain calm, patient, and resilient in challenging situations
Excellent communication and teamwork skills
Understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures
A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable young people
Experience within schools, alternative provisions, youth work, care settings, or similar environments is highly desirable
Knowledge of trauma-informed approaches or therapeutic support strategies is advantageous
Qualifications
GCSE Maths and English (Grade C/4 or above) preferred
Relevant qualifications in Education, Childcare, Health & Social Care, Psychology, or Youth Work are desirable
Team Teach training or similar behaviour management training is advantageous but not essential
A valid Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one
