About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEND Teacher to join a welcoming, family-feel specialist school in Sutton supporting pupils with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD) within a KS2 cohort.
This is a highly rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the lives of children with complex needs in a nurturing, supportive environment where staff work collaboratively and relationships are at the heart of everything they do.
We welcome applications from qualified teachers holding QTS (preferred) or a PGCE equivalent, with strong experience at Level 7 teaching standard and a proven background in SEND education.
You will be responsible for delivering highly personalised learning experiences, supporting communication, engagement, and development across academic, social, and emotional domains.
Candidate Requirements
• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) preferred or PGCE equivalent
• Demonstrable Level 7 teaching experience
• Strong background in SEND, ideally within PMLD or complex needs settings
• Experience working within specialist or SEND provisions
• Excellent behaviour management and relationship-building skills
• A calm, resilient, and nurturing approach
Expectations & Approach (Therapeutic, Non-Handling)
This setting adopts a therapeutic approach to working with students, prioritising understanding, emotional safety, and positive engagement over physical intervention.
Staff are expected to adhere to the following principles:
• No shouting: Staff must not raise their voice in a harsh or derogatory manner towards students.
• Soft communication: Calm, respectful, and consistent communication is essential at all times.
• Clear boundaries: Expectations should be communicated clearly, consistently, and fairly.
• Positive reinforcement: Focus on encouraging and recognising positive behaviour rather than emphasising negative behaviour.
• Active engagement: Staff are expected to be proactive in the classroom by moving around the space, supporting learning, and building meaningful relationships with students and colleagues.
Physical Intervention
Staff must not grab, hold, or restrain students by any part of the body, including arms or wrists. Any physical contact must only occur in line with authorised safeguarding and safety protocols.
The School
This is a welcoming, family-feel school in Sutton, offering a highly supportive environment where staff are valued and pupils are placed at the centre of all decision-making. The setting is well-resourced and committed to providing a nurturing, structured, and inclusive learning experience.
