Description
Axcis Education is looking for teaching assistants to work at a special school within the Handsworth area. The school currently caters to autistic children and young people aged 4 to 13 years with complex needs. The needs of the individuals at this school are very complex, including non-verbal/pre-verbal communication, distressing/challenging behaviour, sensory challenges and personal care needs as well as social, emotional and mental health challenges.
Due to the needs of the pupils the school has adapted a very niche operation and therefore are looking for teaching assistants willing to adapt their practice as a TA to the needs of the specific children; willingness to take on feedback and adapt is highly valued.
This is a full-time role, working on a small group and 1:1 basis for the remainder of the 2024/25 academic year, with not only potential to return after the summer holidays but also to be offered a permanent contract. Being able to work independently and as part of a team is key, to be able to take direction from the teacher and implement planning accurately and effectively.
Job details:
• Whole class support but working on a 1:1 or small group basis
• All-round support including personal care, sensory needs and non/pre-verbal communication
• Working independently and as part of a team
• Full time hours (8:30am – 3:30pm, Monday to Friday)
• Ongoing basis for the remainder of the 2024/25 academic year (potential to return in September and for a permanent contract)
• Start date: 2nd June 2025
Requirements:
• Experience in working on a one to one basis – Essential
• Experience of working with pupils with complex ASD, including non-verbal/pre-verbal communication, distressing/challenging behaviour, sensory challenges and social, emotional and mental health challenges – Essential
• Willingness to complete personal care tasks – Essential
• Experience in picture exchange communication - Essential
• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service required or we’re happy to carry out a new one ahead of you starting the position – Essential
• Minimum of 2 good references – Essential
