Description
Location: Somerton
Pay: £92–£109 per day
Contract: Full-time, term-time | Long-term opportunity
We are looking for a passionate and ambitious SEND Teaching Assistant to join a small specialist school in Somerton as it continues to grow.
The school supports pupils in KS2 and KS3, many with autism, global developmental delay and associated social and emotional needs. With a small, nurturing environment and high expectations for every pupil, this is an excellent opportunity for someone who wants to make a genuine difference while developing their specialist skills.
The Role:
You will work closely with pupils both individually and in small groups, supporting their academic, social and emotional development. The role will include:
• Supporting learning across core subjects, alongside practical and project-based activities
• Building positive, trusting relationships with pupils
• Supporting positive behaviour and emotional regulation
• Delivering 1:1 and small-group activities
• Encouraging independence, confidence and preparation for reintegration into mainstream education
• Supporting outdoor learning and practical activities
• Recording observations and contributing to tracking pupils’ progress and behaviour
• Working closely with teachers, therapists and other professionals
The school has a forest school/outdoor area, so an interest in nature, gardening or outdoor learning would be a bonus, although Forest School experience or qualifications are not essential.
About You:
You may already have experience working with children with SEND, autism, SEMH or behavioural needs, or you may be looking to develop your career in specialist education.
You will ideally be:
• Patient, resilient and genuinely passionate about supporting young people
• Able to build strong relationships while maintaining clear boundaries
• Positive and nurturing, with high expectations of what pupils can achieve
• Comfortable working in a small team and adapting your approach to individual needs
• Keen to learn, develop and take on additional responsibility
Why Join?
This is an opportunity to join a small, supportive specialist setting where you can have a meaningful impact and develop your skills. The school works alongside professionals including speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, counsellors and Thrive practitioners.
As the provision expands, there is also potential for experienced and developing TAs to upskill and progress towards leading small classes.
If you're looking for a role where no two days are quite the same and where your relationships with pupils really matter, we'd love to hear from you.
