Key Responsibilities of an SEN Specialist Teacher (Maths)
As an SEN Specialist Teacher, you will:
Plan and deliver differentiated Maths lessons tailored to individual EHCP targets
Adapt the Maths curriculum to meet a wide range of learning needs and abilities
Create a structured, inclusive, and engaging classroom environment
Use SEN-specific strategies such as visual aids, manipulatives, and sensory approaches to support Maths learning
Work collaboratively with teaching assistants, therapists, and senior leaders
Monitor, assess, and report on pupil progress in Maths and across wider development areas
Support emotional regulation and positive behaviour using consistent approaches
Lead or contribute to Annual Reviews and EHCP planning
Build strong relationships with parents, carers, and external professionals
What We’re Looking For
We are seeking an SEN Specialist Teacher who has:
Qualifications:
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) – essential
A strong background in teaching Maths
Additional SEN qualifications or training – desirable
Experience:
Proven experience working within a specialist or SEN setting
Experience teaching Maths to pupils with ASC, SEMH, or complex needs
Strong understanding of EHCP processes and personalised learning
Knowledge & Skills:
Knowledge of behaviour management strategies (e.g. Team Teach, Zones of Regulation)
Ability to break down Maths concepts into accessible, engaging learning steps
Strong communication and teamwork skills
Patience, resilience, and a genuine passion for SEN education
