Description
Sport Learning Coach– SEND Teaching Assistant
Location: Exeter, Devon
Hours: Full-Time, Monday to Friday | 8:45am – 4:15pm
Start Date: October
Are you a Sports Coach who thrives on helping young people grow through physical activity? We’re currently recruiting for a Sports Focused Teaching Assistant to work in an alternative provision in Exeter starting this October. This is your chance to make a genuine difference by using your coaching skills to support children with a range of additional needs in the classroom.
The Role
In this rewarding position, you’ll use sport and physical education knowledge to support the development of children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). You’ll work closely with teaching staff to create a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment that promotes both learning and wellbeing. Young people that dis-regulate often need stimulating activities to burn off energy and come back in to the room.
What you’ll be doing:
Supporting pupils in the classroom
Adapting coaching approaches to meet diverse needs and abilities
Encouraging teamwork, communication, and self-confidence
Assisting in classroom activities when not leading physical sessions
Helping with behaviour support and emotional regulation
Playing a key role in school trips or outreach programmes
Collaborating with teachers and therapists to track progress and plan next steps
Participating in team meetings and relevant training
About You
We’re looking for someone who is:
Experienced in working with children or young people (experience with SEND is ideal)
Confident in delivering or assisting with sports and curriculum lessons
Able to adapt to a variety of learning and behavioural needs
Enthusiastic, resilient, and calm under pressure
A strong communicator and natural team player
Aware of safeguarding procedures and committed to the wellbeing of all pupils
How to Apply
If you're ready to bring your coaching passion into the classroom, we’d love to hear from you.
