Axcis Education are pleased to be working with a mainstream primary school in Darwen, who are searching for a dedicated and qualified Teacher of the Deaf to join their team from September 2026. This would be a full time position, running until Christmas 2026 initially, though highly likely to be extended for the entire academic year.
The role would involve working within the school’s SEND unit, teaching students from year 2-5 with a range of hearing impairments. This is an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful difference to the lives of deaf and hearing-impaired pupils, helping them to achieve their full academic, social and emotional potential within a supportive mainstream setting.
The successful candidate will:
• Assess, plan and deliver tailored teaching and learning programmes for deaf pupils.
• Support pupils' language, communication and literacy development.
• Advise and collaborate with teaching staff to ensure effective classroom inclusion.
• Work in partnership with parents, carers and specialist services.
• Monitor pupil progress and contribute to EHCP reviews and reports where required.
• Promote independence, confidence and positive outcomes for all learners.
We Are Looking For Someone Who:
• Holds Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
• Possesses, or is working towards, the mandatory qualification for Teachers of the Deaf.
• Has experience working with deaf children and young people within educational settings.
• Demonstrates a strong understanding of inclusive teaching practices.
• Has excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills.
• Is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
• Works effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
