Location: Tameside, Greater Manchester
Job Type: Full-Time
Salary: Competitive, based on experience and qualifications

Are you passionate about supporting young people with special educational needs? Axcis Education are looking for a dedicated and patient SEN Teaching Assistant to join one of our Tameside’s specialist schools. This is a rewarding opportunity to provide classroom-based support to children and young people with a variety of learning difficulties, including autism, communication challenges and developmental delays.

You will be working in a well-resourced, nurturing environment where teamwork and pupil wellbeing are at the heart of everything we do. Your role will involve supporting students on a one-to-one basis and in small groups to help them engage with learning and develop important life skills.

Main Responsibilities:
- Assist the class teacher in delivering planned lessons and activities

- Provide tailored support to pupils with a range of SEN, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), speech and language needs and sensory processing difficulties

- Help maintain a structured, inclusive and calm learning environment

- Support students with daily routines, transitions and behaviour management

- Contribute to setting up learning materials and adapting resources to suit individual needs

- Support with personal care tasks where required and follow individual care plans

- Monitor pupil progress and report observations to teaching staff and SEN professionals

- Uphold the school’s safeguarding policies and promote a safe learning space for all students

You’ll be a key part of a multi-professional team working collaboratively to ensure each pupil reaches their full potential. Flexibility, resilience, and a caring nature are essential.

What We’re Looking For:
We’re seeking someone who is committed to making a difference in the lives of young people with SEN. Ideally, you will have:

- Previous experience in an SEN, care, or school support role

- A good understanding of the needs of pupils with autism and complex learning difficulties

- A calm, consistent, and empathetic approach to supporting behaviour and learning

- Strong communication and teamwork skills

- The ability to follow instructions and also use initiative when needed

- A willingness to undertake relevant training, including safeguarding and SEN-specific development

- A recognised Teaching Assistant qualification (e.g. Level 2 or 3) or experience in a specialist setting is desirable, though not essential for the right candidate.

What You Can Expect:
By joining us, you will benefit from:

- A supportive and experienced staff team

- Opportunities for ongoing professional development

- A chance to contribute meaningfully to pupils’ education and well-being

- A varied and rewarding day-to-day role

- Competitive pay, based on your experience and role responsibilities
