Teaching Assistant – SEMH & Behaviour Support (January Start)

Location: Knowsley
Contract Type: Full-Time | Long-Term
Start Date: Late November / Early December 2025
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 3:30pm

A welcoming secondary school in Knowsley is looking for a committed SEMH & Behaviour Support Teaching Assistant to join their team ahead of the January term. This long-term role is ideal for someone who can remain calm under pressure, build strong relationships, and bring out the best in young people who need consistency and understanding.

What You’ll Be Doing
• Provide tailored 1:1 and small-group support to students with SEMH needs and behavioural challenges
• Implement and contribute to Individual Education Plans (IEPs), ensuring each student’s support is personalised and purposeful
• Promote positive behaviour and emotional regulation, using clear boundaries, de-escalation techniques, and consistent encouragement
• Create a structured, safe, and inclusive learning environment where every student feels valued
• Build trusting, meaningful relationships to support students’ academic progress and personal development
• Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, pastoral staff, and external professionals to track progress and adjust strategies where needed

About You

We’re looking for someone who is:
• Experienced in supporting children or young people with SEMH needs and/or challenging behaviour
• Calm, emotionally resilient, and able to think clearly in high-pressure situations
• Skilled in communication and able to build rapport quickly
• Familiar with behaviour management approaches, trauma-informed practice, or restorative methods
• Deeply committed to helping all students access learning and achieve their potential
