Axcis Education are working with a mainstream primary school in Southport who are searching for a teaching assistant to join their team on a supply basis. This would be a full time position, working Monday to Friday, 8.30am - 3.30pm beginning as soon as possible, and running on a long term basis. There is potential for a permanent position for the right applicant.
This position involves working 1-1 with a pupil in year 4. He has a diagnosis of autism and requires assistance with his social communication. The pupil struggles with sensory processing and fine motor skills (particularly handwriting). He is working significantly below his Age Related Expectations and struggles to maintain concentration in the classroom. The school are looking for a teaching assistant able to form a positive relationship with the student and who can work closely with him, to bring him back up to speed in the classroom. The pupil engages well with 1-1 and small group work.
The role is based in a lovely primary school in Southport, rated as ‘good’ in its most recent OFSTED inspection. There are good facilities onsite, and a supportive teaching and learning support team to help any starters settle in. There are excellent public transport links within walking distance of the school and a car park onsite.
To be considered for this role, you must have previous experience working with autism in some form - ideally in a school setting. Previous school based experience would be preferred but is not essential, provided you have the relevant SEND experience. You will require an enhanced DBS on the update service for this position.
