Job Title: Teaching Assistant – Special Needs Support (Autism Focus)

Location: Oldham, Lancashire

Type of Position: Full-Time

Hours: 8:30 am - 3:30 pm

We are currently seeking a dedicated and empathetic Teaching Assistant to join our team in Oldham, Lancashire. This role focuses on providing exceptional support to students with special educational needs, particularly those with Autism.

Key Responsibilities:

- Work 1:1 and sometimes in small groups with students who have Autism and other additional needs, providing them with the necessary support to succeed in their educational environment.
- Teach and model coping mechanisms and strategies to students with SEND to help prevent and manage crisis situations.
- Encourage and facilitate the development of social bonds among students with ASC, promoting sharing, collaborative play, and positive interactions.
- Effectively communicate using both verbal and non-verbal cues, adapting your approach to meet the individual needs of each student.
- Support the classroom teacher in implementing individualized education programs (IEPs) and ensuring an inclusive learning atmosphere.
- Collaborate with other professionals, such as speech and language therapists or educational psychologists, to support students' development.
- Maintain professional and supportive relationships with parents, guardians, and families, providing them with progress updates and strategies for home support.

Requirements:

- Proven experience working with young people with additional needs, specifically Autism Spectrum Condition.
- Ability to utilize a variety of communication methods, including non-verbal cues. Knowledge of Makaton is an advantage, but not essential.
- A patient, caring, and creative approach to supporting students with special educational needs.
- Flexibility to work on a 1:1 basis or with small groups as required.
- Must hold a current DBS certificate on the update service, or be willing to obtain one.
