Description
SEND Teaching Assistant – Autism & Communication Needs – Tower Hamlets
£95–£110 per day | Full-Time | Long-Term | Tower Hamlets
Axcis Education is looking for an experienced and engaging SEND Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming primary school in Tower Hamlets. This is a full-time, long-term opportunity supporting pupils with Autism and communication needs, both on a 1:1 basis and in small groups.
The ideal candidate will be confident supporting children who may be verbal or non-verbal, and comfortable using communication and visual strategies such as PECS, Makaton, Now & Next boards, visual timetables and sensory activities. Experience within an SEN room, ARP, special school or mainstream SEND setting would be particularly valuable.
The school is looking for someone who is calm, proactive and able to build relationships quickly, while encouraging pupils to become more independent and confident in their learning.
About the Role:
• Supporting pupils with Autism, communication difficulties and additional learning needs
• Providing 1:1 and small-group support
• Using visual communication strategies to support routines and engagement
• Supporting pupils with emotional regulation and sensory needs
• Helping children access phonics, literacy, numeracy and classroom activities
• Working closely with the class teacher, SENCO and wider SEND team
• Encouraging independence without over-supporting pupils
About You
We would particularly like to hear from candidates who:
• Have previous experience working with children or young people with SEND
• Have experience supporting Autism and communication needs
• Are confident working with pupils who may be non-verbal or have limited communication
• Are patient, reliable and comfortable adapting their approach to the individual child
• Can commit to a full-time, long-term position
• Have experience with PECS, Makaton, sensory support or visual resources – desirable but not essential
Location
The role is based in Tower Hamlets, with strong transport links across East London via the District, Hammersmith & City, Central, Elizabeth and DLR lines, depending on the school location. This makes the opportunity particularly accessible for candidates travelling from Newham, Hackney, Stratford, Barking and surrounding East London areas.
