**Job Title: Teaching Assistant (British Sign Language - BSL Qualified)**
**Location: Bolton, Greater Manchester**
**Job Summary:**
We are seeking a dedicated and patient Teaching Assistant with a proficiency in British Sign Language (BSL) to support the learning and development of students with sensory needs. The successful candidate will work closely with classroom teachers to facilitate communication and provide tailored assistance to ensure an inclusive educational environment.
**Key Responsibilities:**
- Assist in the delivery of classroom lessons by interpreting between spoken English and BSL for students who are Deaf or hard of hearing.
- Support students with sensory needs, ensuring they have equal access to educational materials and participate fully in school activities.
- Adapt learning materials to make them accessible for students with sensory impairments.
- Work collaboratively with teachers to implement educational plans and track students' progress.
- Provide one-on-one or small group support to students, reinforcing learning concepts and helping them overcome challenges.
- Assist with the development of students' BSL skills and promote an understanding of Deaf culture within the school community.
- Facilitate communication between students with sensory needs and their peers, fostering a positive and supportive social environment.
- Help to create and maintain a safe, clean, and effective learning environment for all students.
- Attend and contribute to team meetings and professional development sessions to enhance skills and knowledge.
**Qualifications/Skills:**
- Certified proficiency in BSL (Level 2 or above preferred).
- Experience working with children or young people, particularly those with sensory needs or disabilities.
- Strong understanding of the educational needs and challenges faced by Deaf or hard of hearing students.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Patience, empathy, and a positive attitude.
- Ability to work cooperatively with teachers, parents, and other staff members.
- Willingness to undergo further training as required.
