Job Title: Teaching Assistant
Location: Martock
Setting: SEMH School
Hours: Full-time Monday to Friday 8:30am – 3:30pm
Pay: £14.25 – £15.50 per hour PAYE
Axcis Education is seeking a Teaching Assistant to work within a specialist SEMH school in Martock. This full-time Teaching Assistant vacancy offers the opportunity to support pupils who need a more personalised approach to education while helping them develop academically.
The setting provides a supportive environment where pupils are encouraged to build confidence develop independence and recognise their own strengths. As a Teaching Assistant you will work closely with teaching staff to understand individual needs and provide consistent support throughout the school day.
This role would suit a Teaching Assistant who is patient adaptable and genuinely motivated by helping children and young people make progress.
Teaching Assistant Responsibilities:
- Supporting pupils during lessons and structured activities
- Providing one-to-one and small-group assistance where needed
- Helping learners access personalised learning and classroom tasks
- Encouraging communication confidence independence and social development
- Supporting pupils who may experience barriers to learning or require additional guidance
- Helping students develop practical and functional skills
- Working alongside teachers and wider support staff to meet individual needs
- Promoting positive behaviour and a calm learning environment
- Recognising pupil achievements and encouraging continued progress
The Ideal Teaching Assistant:
- Has experience working with children or young people ideally within SEMH education
- Is patient compassionate and able to remain calm in challenging situations
- Can adapt their communication and support style to suit individual pupils
- Builds positive and trusting relationships
- Has a proactive approach to supporting learning and development
- Works well as part of a wider education team
- Is passionate about helping pupils become more confident and independent
