Job Title: Teaching Assistant – Primary
Location: Taunton
Pay Rate: £89 per day
Job Type: Full-time – Term Time Only (Temporary or Long-term)
Working Hours: 8:30am – 3:30pm (Monday to Friday)

A welcoming and inclusive primary school in Taunton is seeking a dedicated and caring Teaching Assistant to support pupils across the school. This is a wonderful opportunity for someone who’s passionate about helping children to thrive — academically, socially, and emotionally — in their early years of learning. Whether you have experience in education or are coming from a care, childcare, or youth support background, your warmth, patience, and commitment can make a real difference in the classroom.

About the Role:

As a Teaching Assistant, you’ll work closely with children who may have special educational needs, including autism, ADHD, or social, emotional and behavioural challenges. You’ll provide both 1:1 and small group support, helping pupils build confidence, develop independence, and engage positively in their learning.
You’ll work alongside the class teacher and the school’s SENCO to adapt learning strategies, track progress, and create a nurturing environment where every child can succeed.

Key Responsibilities:

• Support pupils with SEND in class, in small groups, and 1:1
• Help children focus, participate, and regulate emotions during lessons
• Follow individual support plans and contribute to pupil progress records
• Encourage positive behaviour and promote self-esteem
• Support classroom routines, transitions, and playtime supervision
• Use learning aids and ICT to enhance access to the curriculum
• Ensure a safe, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment at all times

Who We’re Looking For:

• A kind, patient, and reliable individual with a genuine passion for working with children
• Experience supporting pupils with SEND or additional needs (education, childcare, or care experience welcome)
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• GCSEs (Grade 4/C or above) in English and Maths
• Confidence supporting pupils aged 4–11
• A positive attitude and willingness to complete training in safeguarding, SEND, and behaviour support

Why You’ll Love This Role:

• Meaningful Work – Help young children learn, grow, and flourish
• Supportive Environment – Work within a kind, collaborative staff team
• Work-Life Balance – Term-time only with regular daytime hours
• Professional Growth – Access to training and CPD opportunities
• Weekly Pay – £89 per day, paid weekly

If you’re a nurturing, proactive individual who loves helping children reach their potential, we’d love to hear from you. Apply now to join a caring and vibrant primary school in Taunton as a valued Teaching Assistant.
