Job Title: Teaching Assistant

Location: Chard, Somerset

Salary: £14 per hour

Start: September

We are currently seeking a dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistant to join our vibrant team at a large school situated in Chard, Somerset. This role involves working across Key Stages 1 to 4, providing support to a diverse cohort of students. The ideal candidate will have experience working with students with Social, Emotional, Mental Health needs and Special Educational Needs and Disabilities.

Key Responsibilities:

- Assist in the educational and social development of students under the direction and guidance of the faculty and classroom teachers.
- Support students with SEMH and SEND in various classroom settings to ensure a conducive learning environment.
- Collaborate with the classroom teacher to plan instructional activities and materials, thereby meeting the needs of all students.
- Work closely with individual students, providing one-on-one support and helping them to overcome challenges.
- Oversee student behavior in the classroom and other school premises, and apply appropriate behaviour management strategies.
- Assist in preparing lesson materials, equipment, and activities as directed by the classroom teacher.
- Participate in and contribute to planning meetings and parent conferences as required.
- Perform clerical duties necessary for the effective running of the classroom, such as grading papers, recording attendance, and maintaining student records.
- Facilitate and support the inclusion of all students in a mainstream classroom setting.
- Encourage and motivate students to enhance their participation in educational and extra-curricular activities.
- Adhere to the school's policies and procedures to ensure the safety and well-being of all students.

Qualifications and Skills:

- Experience working with children with SEMH and SEND is highly desirable.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with students, staff, and parents.
- Patience, flexibility, and a positive attitude towards the educational development of children.
- Ability to work well both independently and within a team.
- Excellent organizational skills to handle a multifaceted workload.
- Current and valid DBS check (or willingness to undertake this).
