Are you passionate about helping young people thrive in education?

We are seeking a dedicated and flexible Teaching Assistant to join a supportive secondary school in Taunton. This role will see you working closely with students who may have additional needs, including autism, social and emotional difficulties, or behavioural challenges, providing them with the tools and encouragement they need to succeed both in and out of the classroom.

What the Role Involves:

As a Teaching Assistant you’ll play a pivotal role in ensuring students across Key Stages 3 and 4 feel included and confident in their learning journey. This is a rewarding position where no two days are the same. You will:

• Deliver 1:1 and small group support for pupils with a range of SEND needs
• Follow tailored learning plans set out by the SENCO
• Help students engage in lessons, manage behaviour, and develop independence
• Provide regular feedback and track progress, liaising with staff, parents, and outside agencies where required
• Encourage social, emotional, and academic growth, promoting resilience and self-belief
• Support with ICT, classroom resources, educational visits, and supervision during breaks or school activities
• Maintain the highest standards of safeguarding and confidentiality at all times

What We’re Looking For:

We welcome applications from candidates with a genuine passion for supporting young people. To be successful, you should demonstrate:

• A caring, patient, and resilient nature
• Experience working with young people with SEND or behavioural needs (education, youth work, or care settings considered)
• Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with students and staff
• Good organisational skills and flexibility in approach
• GCSEs (Grade C/4 or above) in English and Maths (essential)
• An understanding of the secondary curriculum (desirable)
• Willingness to undertake relevant training in safeguarding, SEND, and behaviour management

Why Work Here?

• Impactful Role: Make a real difference in the lives of young people every day
• Supportive Team: Work within an experienced SEND department with excellent staff collaboration
• Professional Growth: Access to CPD and ongoing training opportunities
• Balanced Hours: 30.5 hours per week during term time, leaving school holidays free
• Reliable Pay: £89 per day, paid weekly

If you’re motivated, proactive, and passionate about supporting students with additional needs, we’d love to hear from you. Apply today and take the next step in your education career as a valued Teaching Assistant in Taunton.
