Job Description:
We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Teaching Assistant to join a supportive school team situated in the heart of Chard, Somerset. This full-time role requires a committed individual who is ready to make a positive impact on the lives of young learners, particularly those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities, Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs and Speech, Language and Communication Needs.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Support students with SEND, SEMH, and SLCN in mainstream and specialized classrooms, ensuring their educational and emotional needs are met.
- Assist in the planning and delivery of engaging, differentiated lessons alongside the lead teacher.
- Provide one-to-one or small group support, constantly encouraging students to achieve their full potential.
- Mentor and nurture children's social skills, self-esteem, and overall well-being within the school environment.
- Prepare and organize classroom resources, setting up equipment and materials as needed.
- Collaborate with other teaching staff, contributing to the formulation of Individual Education Plans and participating in relevant meetings.
- Monitor and track student progress, providing regular feedback to the teacher and parents when required.
- Handle and de-escalate challenging behaviour in a calm and effective manner, in accordance with the school's policies.
- Accompany students on educational trips and outings, ensuring their safety and engagement with the activities.
Requirements:
- Proven experience as a Teaching Assistant, or relevant child-centred role.
- NVQ Level 2 or 3 for Teaching Assistants, or equivalent qualification, is highly desirable.
- A compassionate and patient outlook with the capability to handle challenging situations with tact and sensitivity.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to form positive relationships with children, colleagues, and parents.
- A clean, valid driving licence, as the role may require transporting students or travelling between sites.
- A current Enhanced DBS Certificate, or willingness to undergo checks.
