Job Purpose
You will take ownership of the management and performance of workshops across the depot network, leading workshop supervisors, fitters, and wash bay valeters. This role focuses on delivering operational excellence through consistent service standards, strict safety compliance, and timely equipment turnaround. Your goal will be to drive continuous improvement, maximise uptime, and optimise operational efficiency across the fleet.
Main Responsibilities
Workshop Operations Management
• Work closely with Workshop Supervisors to oversee daily operations, ensuring efficient, high-quality maintenance and repairs of plant equipment.
• Implement and maintain standardised operating procedures across all locations for reliability and efficiency.
• Develop and execute preventative maintenance programmes (PHI, PDI, and Service schedules) to reduce downtime and enhance fleet reliability.
• Coordinate with the Hire Desk to align workshop readiness with hire schedules, proactively communicating any potential service delays.
Operational & Technical Oversight
• Lead and inspire Workshop teams to deliver technical excellence.
• Manage planned maintenance, technical service delivery, and fast, effective responses to breakdowns, services, and inspections.
• Ensure accurate fault diagnosis, reporting, and repair of both chargeable and non-chargeable damage.
• Maintain precise, up-to-date records of safety inspections and certifications.
• Enforce strict compliance with health & safety regulations, company policies, and industry best practices.
• Collaborate with Workshop Management to maintain an efficient parts stock control system—avoiding overstock while ensuring timely availability.
People Management & Development
• Build, develop, and lead a high-performing technical team.
• Conduct regular performance reviews, training needs assessments, and career development planning.
• Ensure effective staffing, workload distribution, and resource management.
• Promote a culture of accountability, safety, and continuous improvement.
• Organise product and safety training to ensure all staff work safely, efficiently, and effectively.
Budget Management
• Control plant maintenance expenditure within budgetary limits, identifying opportunities for cost savings.
• Ensure all chargeable damage is accurately assessed, documented, and processed within required timelines.
Customer Service & Stakeholder Engagement
• Deliver a consistent, professional, and safe service to all customers.
• Act as an escalation point for service-related concerns, maintaining strong relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
• Collaborate with Hire Desk and Sales teams to align service delivery with customer expectations.
Performance Monitoring & Continuous Improvement
• Set and monitor KPIs to track reliability, cost-efficiency, and operational performance.
• Review and refine processes, standards, and resources to drive service quality and operational excellence.
Skills and Attributes
• Proven experience managing multiple workshops within the plant industry
• Strong technical knowledge of plant equipment and telematics
• Exceptional leadership, communication, and customer service skills
• Proficient in Microsoft Office with excellent attention to detail
• Proactive, solution-focused mindset with outstanding organisational skills
• Solid understanding of health & safety legislation and best practices
• Flexibility to travel between workshop locations as required
Desirable
• IOSH or NEBOSH certification
• Experience with Syrinx software
