1:1 Support Assistant – All-Through Special School
Location: Sutton
Hours: Monday to Friday, 9:00am – 3:45pm (Term Time Only)
Start Date: ASAP – we are always looking for passionate SEND staff
We are seeking a positive and proactive 1:1 Support Assistant to join a friendly all-through special school in Sutton. This is a highly rewarding role supporting a pupil with ASD, SEMH needs, challenging behaviours, and non-verbal communication. You will work closely with the student both in the classroom and around the school, providing tailored support to enable learning, independence, and emotional regulation.
About the Role
You will provide dedicated 1:1 support, helping the pupil access their learning, manage emotions, and engage in daily routines. This role is ideal for someone calm, confident, and experienced in supporting students with complex needs, including challenging behaviours.
Key Responsibilities
Provide 1:1 support to a pupil with ASD, SEMH needs, challenging behaviours, and non-verbal communication.
Support safe movement around the school, including corridor supervision.
Assist in the classroom to help the pupil engage in learning and manage behaviour positively.
Use initiative to respond calmly and effectively to challenging situations.
Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and the wider support team.
Promote independence, life skills, and emotional wellbeing wherever possible.
The Ideal Candidate
Experience supporting pupils with ASD, SEMH needs, challenging behaviours, or non-verbal communication.
Confident and skilled in positive behaviour management.
Calm, patient, and adaptable, able to respond effectively in challenging situations.
Strong communication and teamwork skills.
Passionate about making a real difference in the lives of young people with SEND.
