Location: Carshalton, Sutton (SM5)
Start Date: September (with the possibility of an earlier start)

A welcoming primary school in Carshalton, Sutton, is seeking an experienced and passionate SEND Teacher to lead their new Independent Alternative Provision for pupils with additional needs.

From September, the school will be establishing a specialist provision supporting pupils with Autism, Speech, Language and Communication needs (SLCN), and Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs (SEMH).

The successful SEND Teacher will take full responsibility for the provision, including planning and delivering engaging, personalised lessons, supporting pupil progress, and working closely with a team of three Learning Support Assistants. The class will be designed around creating a calm, low-arousal learning environment, with teaching taking place in dedicated classrooms to meet pupils’ individual needs.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead and deliver high-quality teaching for pupils with SEND within an Alternative Provision setting
Plan and adapt lessons to meet individual learning needs and EHCP outcomes
Create a structured, supportive, and low-arousal classroom environment
Direct and support a team of three LSAs to ensure effective pupil support
Monitor pupil progress and contribute to assessments and reviews
Attend staff meetings, training, and CPD opportunities
Build positive relationships with pupils, families, and the wider school team

The ideal candidate will have:

Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
Experience teaching pupils with SEND, particularly Autism, SLCN and/or SEMH needs
Strong knowledge of personalised learning approaches and EHCPs
The ability to lead and motivate support staff effectively
A nurturing, patient, and consistent approach to supporting pupils with additional needs

This is an exciting opportunity for a dedicated SEND Teacher to play a key role in developing a new specialist provision and making a lasting impact on pupils’ education and wellbeing.

There may also be an opportunity to join the school before September to become familiar with the setting, staff, and pupils ahead of the new provision opening.
