Description

Bedfordshire Council is seeking an experienced Aids and Adaptations Housing Surveyor to support the delivery of housing adaptations that enable residents to live safely and independently in their homes. The role involves undertaking site surveys, assessing the feasibility of adaptation works, producing plans and specifications, managing projects from inception to completion, reviewing contractor quotations, monitoring works on site, identifying defects, and ensuring compliance with relevant housing, construction, health and safety, and CDM regulations. The successful candidate will work closely with residents, contractors, occupational therapists, and internal teams to deliver high-quality adaptation solutions.

The ideal candidate will have at least two years' experience carrying out housing adaptation surveys and producing technical plans and specifications. You will possess strong knowledge of building construction, housing legislation, HHSRS assessments, CDM Regulations, and asbestos awareness. Applicants must be confident managing a demanding caseload, prioritising workloads, challenging decisions around what is reasonable and practicable, and communicating complex technical information in clear, plain English. Experience using CAD, Visio, or similar technical drawing software is essential, along with excellent record-keeping, stakeholder management, and problem-solving skills. A valid driving licence and access to a vehicle are required for daily site visits.

In return, Bedfordshire Council is offering a competitive rate of £50–£55 per hour through Umbrella arrangements, a full-time Monday to Friday working pattern, and the opportunity to work within a dedicated team delivering meaningful improvements to residents' homes and quality of life. Hybrid working arrangements are available, with a combination of office and home working to be confirmed.
