A wonderful opportunity has arisen for a Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teaching Assistant to join a warm and welcoming primary school in Merton. The school caters primarily to mainstream students, with a special ASD provision, ensuring an inclusive and diverse educational experience. You’ll work with students in Key Stage 1 and 2, both on a 1:1 basis and within the classroom to provide tailored support for their individual needs.

Starting in September 2025, this full-time role offers an exciting chance to make a direct impact in the lives of children with a range of learning needs.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide 1:1 support to students with ASD and other special needs, helping them engage with their lessons.

Support students in the mainstream classroom, assisting them to interact with peers and access the curriculum.

Collaborate with teachers to adapt lessons and resources to meet the individual needs of the students.

Promote independence and support students in developing social skills, self-regulation, and emotional resilience.

Help children build positive relationships with their classmates and feel part of the wider school community.

Assist with any personal care needs and manual handling tasks, ensuring the students’ safety and comfort.

Support students during playtimes and practical activities to ensure they are included and safe.

Essential Requirements:

Prior experience working with primary-aged children with special educational needs, particularly ASD.

A calm, patient, and supportive approach to children with learning and behavioural difficulties.

Enhanced DBS check (Child Workforce) registered on the Update Service, or a willingness to obtain one.

Ability to work collaboratively with teachers and other school staff to create an inclusive learning environment.

Experience with manual handling and personal care would be beneficial but not essential.

Strong communication skills and a team-oriented attitude are essential.

A genuine passion for helping children thrive in an inclusive educational setting.
