Description:
Axcis are working with a secondary boys’ school in Newham that is looking to appoint a Behaviour Support Assistant to work with teenage pupils with SEMH (Social, Emotional & Mental Health needs) and challenging behaviour.
This Behaviour Support Assistant role focuses on supporting KS3 and KS4 boys, many of whom require strong role models, clear boundaries and consistent support to help them remain engaged in education. The role involves a mix of 1:1 and small-group support, both in and out of the classroom.
The school is particularly interested in candidates with experience working with teenage boys, whether in schools, youth work, mentoring, sports coaching, PRUs or alternative provision settings. You will be supporting pupils who may struggle with authority, emotional regulation and behaviour in a mainstream environment.
Key Responsibilities:
• Supporting teenage boys with SEMH and challenging behaviour
• Acting as a positive role model and consistent adult presence
• Supporting behaviour management and de-escalation strategies
• Working closely with pastoral, behaviour and SEND teams
• Supporting pupils at risk of exclusion to remain in education
Ideal Candidate:
• Experience as a Behaviour Support Assistant, SEN TA, Youth Worker, Mentor or similar
• Confident working with secondary-aged boys
• Calm, resilient and able to set firm but fair boundaries
• Background in youth work, sports coaching, mentoring or behaviour support is highly desirable
• Available full-time
