Behaviour Support / SEMH Teaching Assistant – Alternative Provision (LE3)
Location: LE3 (Alternative Provision)
Start Date: ASAP
Contract: Full-time, long-term
Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:30am–3:30pm
Pay: £89-95 per day/ £13.69 - £14.61 per hour (dependant on experience)
We are looking for a Behaviour Support / SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a small, supportive Alternative Provision in LE3, working with secondary and Post-16 learners on a 1:1 basis. The setting supports students with significant SEMH needs, challenging behaviour, and disrupted educational experiences.
This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a nurturing but high-challenge environment and can help young people re-engage with learning through patience, consistency and relational practice.
The Role
• Provide 1:1 behaviour and emotional regulation support for students with SEMH needs.
• Use trauma-informed approaches, restorative conversations and de-escalation strategies.
• Support learning in Functional Skills, vocational activities and personalised programmes.
• Encourage engagement, develop trust and promote positive behaviour.
• Implement behaviour plans, track progress and maintain consistent boundaries.
• Work closely with teachers, pastoral leads and external professionals.
• Support during transitions, off-site activities and unstructured times.
• Contribute to a calm, safe and structured environment with clear expectations.
About You
• Experience supporting SEMH, challenging behaviour, youth work or alternative provision.
• Confident working with students aged 14–19 who may display aggression, avoidance or high anxiety.
• Resilient, calm under pressure and able to build strong relationships.
• Knowledge of ASD, ADHD, trauma or attachment needs is beneficial.
• Team Teach/MAPA/PRICE training is an advantage (Axcis can provide training).
• Able to commit to full-time hours.
