Job Title: Challenging Behaviour Teaching Assistant – Special Needs School
Location: Wandsworth, London
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00am – 4:30pm
Contract: Full-Time
Pay: Paid to scale


Job Description:

We are seeking a dedicated and resilient Challenging Behaviour Teaching Assistant to join a highly supportive and well-resourced Special Educational Needs (SEN) school in Wandsworth, London. This full-time role is ideal for someone with experience in managing and supporting children with SEMH (Social, Emotional & Mental Health) needs, ASD, ADHD, or complex behavioural difficulties.


Key Responsibilities:

• Provide tailored 1:1 and group support to students exhibiting challenging behaviour.
• Assist class teachers in implementing individual behaviour plans and learning activities.
• Use de-escalation techniques and behaviour management strategies to promote positive behaviour.
• Build trusting relationships with students to support emotional regulation and engagement in learning.
• Work collaboratively with teaching staff, therapists, and SENCOs to deliver a holistic support system.
• Contribute to maintaining a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.
• Assist with personal care and mobility support where necessary (training provided).


Requirements:

• Experience working with children or young people with challenging behaviour, preferably in a school or care setting.
• Strong behaviour management skills and an understanding of trauma-informed approaches.
• A calm, patient, and proactive approach to supporting students with complex needs.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• A valid Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one).
• Relevant qualifications or training in SEN, behaviour support, or education are desirable but not essential.
