Axcis are recruiting for a teaching assistant to work in a special school specialising in children with Autism and complex needs. The school caters to children aged 4 to 13 years, tailoring their provision to each individual’s needs. We are looking for an individual able to meet the specific needs of a class of Year 5 children, including communication (PECS), physical/personal care needs, sensory needs. As a member of the class team you will rotate around working with small groups (2-3) and 1:1 children.
This is a full-time role on a small group and 1:1 basis on an ongoing basis for the rest of 2024/25 academic year. Being able to work independently and as part of a team is key, to be able to take direction from the teacher and implement planning accurately and effectively.
This Autism specific school is based within North Birmingham and whilst car parking can be limited, the school has great public transport links, perfect for individuals looking to do their bit for the environment. You will be working with the class teacher, following their planning and giving feedback on sessions. • Experience in working on a one to one basis – Essential
• Experience of working with pupils with complex ASD – Essential
• Willingness to complete personal care tasks – Essential
• Experience in picture exchange communication - Essential
• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service required or we’re happy to carry out a new one ahead of you starting the position – Essential
• Minimum of 2 good references – Essential
