Job Title: Cover Teacher
Location: Taunton Area
Pay Rate: £100 – £150 per day
Contract Type: Term Time Only – Full-time (29.5 hours per week)
Working Hours: 8:30am – 3:30pm (Monday to Friday)
A welcoming and ambitious secondary school in the Taunton area is seeking a dedicated and adaptable Cover Teacher to join their team. This role is ideal for those with strong classroom presence and excellent communication skills — whether you’re an experienced educator, an ECT, or a professional with solid classroom experience looking to step into teaching.
About the Role:
As a Cover Teacher, you’ll deliver pre-prepared lessons across a range of subjects when teachers are absent, ensuring continuity of learning and maintaining high standards of classroom behaviour. You’ll provide support, structure, and encouragement to help students remain focused and engaged throughout the school day.
This is a varied and rewarding position where no two days are the same — perfect for someone who enjoys working with young people and thrives on flexibility and challenge.
Key Responsibilities:
• Deliver pre-planned lessons across different year groups (Years 7–11)
• Maintain a calm, purposeful and positive classroom environment
• Manage pupil behaviour in line with school policies
• Take registers, monitor participation, and provide feedback to teaching staff
• Encourage students to take ownership of their learning and maintain high expectations
• Promote inclusion, wellbeing, and respect within the classroom
• Follow safeguarding, data protection, and health and safety procedures at all times
Who We’re Looking For:
• Confident communicator with strong classroom management skills
• Experience in education or youth work (teaching qualification desirable but not essential)
• Organised, professional, and adaptable to different subjects and age groups
• Passionate about supporting young people to achieve their best
• DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
