Description

Axcis Education are working closely to support a secondary SEMH provision who are looking to appoint a Curriculum and Teaching Leader, initially on a temporary basis. This would be a full time position, working 8.30-16.00. The position is to be paid against Main Pay Scale, including a Teaching & Learning Responsibility (TLR) contribution. This is a position for an experienced Senior Leader who has experience working in a mainstream or SEND school as part of SLT. Experience working in a specialist setting for students with SEMH is desirable, but not essential.

Key Responsibilities:
• Lead the development, implementation, and ongoing review of a trauma-informed, sequenced curriculum aligned with pupils’ EHCPs and individual needs, ensuring it is ambitious, relevant, and coherent.

•Support and coach teaching staff to deliver high-quality, engaging, and effective lessons with high expectations and appropriate feedback, promoting pupils’ retention and deepening of knowledge.

•Implement and embed appropriate academic assessment tools to systematically check pupil understanding, identify gaps, and provide constructive feedback, ensuring assessment practises meet OFSTED’s expected standards.

•Ensure curriculum accessibility and inclusivity for all pupils, particularly those with SEMH needs, SEND, and disadvantaged backgrounds, with suitable adaptations and small-step progress planning.

•Collaborate with pastoral and safeguarding teams to link curriculum and teaching strategies with pupil wellbeing and attendance initiatives.

•Foster a nurturing learning environment that supports pupils to settle and engage effectively, encouraging independent learning and critical thinking.

Person Specification:
•Experience in curriculum leadership, preferably in a special or SEMH school setting.

•Strong understanding of trauma-informed educational approaches.

•Skilled in coaching and developing teaching staff.

•Knowledge of SEND, EHCPs, inclusive education practises, and academic assessment tools.

•Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
