Job Title: Down Syndrome Teaching Assistant
Location: Wandsworth, London
Hours: 8:00am-4:30pm, Full time
Pay: Paid to scale
Start Date: Monday 1st September
We are seeking an empathetic and dedicated Down Syndrome Teaching Assistant to join our supportive team in Wandsworth, London. The successful candidate will work closely with children who have Down Syndrome, facilitating an inclusive and positive learning environment that addresses their individual educational needs.
Key Responsibilities
:
• Provide tailored support to pupils with Down Syndrome, adapting teaching methods to suit their individual learning styles and requirements.
• Assist with the planning and delivery of individual education plans (IEPs) in collaboration with the lead teacher and support staff.
• Implement strategies to promote pupil independence, self-confidence, and social integration.
• Monitor and report on the progress of pupils, providing feedback to teachers, parents, and relevant professionals.
• Managing challenging behaviour and using appropriate behaviour management techniques.
• Assist with the development of communication skills using alternative communication methods if required.
• Encourage and facilitate inclusive play and social interaction with peers.
• Provide support with personal care tasks as necessary.
• Participate in professional development and training related to Down Syndrome and special educational needs.
Requirements:
• Experience working with children with Down Syndrome or other special educational needs is preferred.
• NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools or equivalent qualification.
• Empathy, patience, and a caring nature.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Commitment to the safeguarding and well-being of all children.
