Description
Our client, a Local Authority in East London, is looking for an experienced Environmental Health Officer to join their Commercial Environmental Health Team on a 6-month contract. The role focuses on food hygiene and food standards work, carrying out around 10 inspections per week alongside verification, investigation, and complaint-handling duties across a range of food businesses. You'll use a range of regulatory powers — including notices, simple cautions, emergency powers, seizures, and prosecutions — to secure compliance and reduce risk, while maintaining accurate records and contributing to the team's duty and on-borough response service.
Candidates must be registered as a Chartered or Registered Environmental Health Practitioner, or hold a Certificate of Registration obtained prior to September 2021. You'll need solid experience investigating environmental health complaints and conducting compliance inspections within a Commercial Environmental Health setting, along with detailed knowledge of relevant legislation and enforcement processes. Strong decision-making and investigative skills are essential, as is the ability to explain technical and legal matters clearly to a range of stakeholders. Good IT literacy, excellent record-keeping, and the ability to manage a high-volume, varied caseload are also required.
This role pays £45 per hour (Umbrella) on an initial 6-month contract, based at the Council's offices in Islington, London. The postholder will be expected in the office 4 days a week and must be able to travel around the borough by public transport, as car parking is not provided. If interested, please get in touch to discuss further or submit your CV.
