Our client, a Local Authority in South West England, is looking for an experienced Environmental Health Officer to join their Regulatory Services team. The role covers the full range of environmental protection work — industrial emissions, air quality, contaminated land, private water supplies, and statutory nuisance — alongside planning and licensing advice. Duties include reactive and proactive interventions such as inspections, investigations, audits, and impact assessments, as well as compliance-focused initiatives, joint working with services like Planning and Building Control, supervising contractors, and providing occasional on-call telephone advice outside normal hours.

Candidates must hold full CIEH membership, a relevant degree or postgraduate diploma in Environmental Health, and registration with the Environmental Health Registration Board. You'll need solid local government experience in environmental protection, strong investigative and compliance skills, and confidence representing the service in formal settings like court or committee. Excellent communication skills, the ability to manage an autonomous caseload, and comfort handling sensitive or difficult situations are essential, along with a full driving licence and access to a vehicle for regular travel across the district.
