Experienced Teaching Assistant / ASD-Specific SEND School

Axcis are on search for teaching assistants to work in a special school specialising in children with Autism and complex needs, the school caters to children aged 4 to 19 years, tailoring their provision to each individual’s needs. The school requires three 1:1 teaching assistants to work with children with exceptional special needs and whom can display very challenging behaviour. The perfect teaching assistants will need to have a very high level of resilience and dedication, consistency is key for all children with SEND needs however this is 10x as important for these specific individuals with exceptional SEND needs.

This is a full-time role on a small group and 1:1 basis on an ongoing basis for the 2024/25 academic year. Being able to work independently and as part of a team is key, to be able to take direction from the teacher and implement planning accurately and effectively. Whilst you will be working on a 1:1 basis with the individual with the specific individual you will also rotate with the class team inworking with other 1:1 children and small groups of children (2-3), this is purposely done by school as they appreciate it would be too tough for any one person to work solely with the specific 1:1.

This Autism specific school is based within North Birmingham and whilst car parking is available, the school also has great public transport links. You will be working with the class teacher, following their planning and giving feedback on sessions. Whilst this will be a challenging role the reward from seeing this individual engage and participate will be phenomenal it really is an amazing opportunity to make a massive impact on this particular individual’s life and learning.

Job details:
• Whole class support but working on a 1:1 or small group basis
• Working on a 1:1 basis with an child with exceptions SEND needs whom will display challenging behaviour
• Working independently and as part of a team
• Full time hours (8:15am – 3:30pm, Monday to Friday)
• Ongoing basis for the 2024/25
• Start date - September 2024

Requirements:
• Experience in working on a one to one basis – Essential
• Experience of working with pupils with complex ASD – Essential
• Experience of working with individuals whom display challenging behaviour – Essential
• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service required or we’re happy to carry out a new one ahead of you starting the position – Essential
• Minimum of 2 good references – Essential
