HLTA Required for All-Age Autism-Specific SEND School
Axcis is working with a an all-age school catering to the individuals with a primary diagnosis of Autism (ASC). The school is based within the Wolverhampton area and has good transport links as well as ample parking facilities.
The school is recruiting for a Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) who will support learning activities for individuals and groups of learners 2-fold;
1. Through planning, preparing and delivering learning activities,
2. Monitoring, assessing, recording and reporting learner’s achievement, progress and development.
You will also be responsible for the management and development of a specialist area within the school; training teaching assistants and monitoring their work within this specialist area.
A Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification and a minimum of 5 years working as a teaching assistant within a special school environment is key along with proficiency within Literacy, Numeracy and ICT. A level 4 HLTA qualification would be highly desirable but it not essential.
Job details:
• Supporting individuals and groups of learners with Autism of which some will have other additional needs
• Planning, preparing and delivering learning activities
• Monitoring, assessing, recording and reporting learner’s achievement, progress and development
• Management and development of a specialist area within the school
• Training teaching assistants and monitoring their work within the specialist area
• Working independently and as part of a team
• Full time hours (8:30am – 3:30pm, Monday to Friday)
• Ongoing basis for the 2025/26 academic year, leading to a permanent contract
• Start date - September 2025
Requirements:
• 5 Years Experience working as a teaching assistant within a SEND School – Essential
• Level 3 Teaching Assistant Qualification or equivalent within a relatable sector – Essential
• Experience supporting individuals and groups of learning with complex SEND needs including Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), Autism (ASC) and Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD) - Essential
• Level 4 HLTA qualification – Desirable but not essential
• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service required or we’re happy to carry out a new one ahead of you starting the position – Essential
• Minimum of 2 good references – Essential
