Axcis Education is working in partnership with a highly regarded specialist SEND school in Poole to recruit a dedicated and skilled Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join their team from September 2026.
This well-resourced and supportive school caters for primary-aged pupils with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) relating to Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, with many pupils also presenting with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC). The school provides a nurturing, structured and therapeutic environment where pupils are supported to develop emotionally, socially and academically.

• Supporting pupils with SEMH and ASC needs on a 1:1, small-group and whole-class basis
• Delivering targeted interventions to support academic progress, emotional regulation and social development
• Building positive, trusting relationships with pupils and acting as a consistent role model
• Working collaboratively with teachers, therapists and pastoral teams to implement personalised support plans
• Supporting the management of behaviour through therapeutic, trauma-informed and restorative approaches
• Monitoring pupil progress and providing feedback to teachers and senior leaders
• Helping to create a safe, engaging and inclusive learning environment where pupils can thrive
The Ideal Candidate
• Holds a HLTA qualification or has substantial experience working at HLTA level
• Has previous experience supporting children with SEMH, ASC and additional needs
• Is confident leading lessons, interventions and small-group learning activities
• Has a strong understanding of trauma-informed practice, attachment needs and behaviour support strategies
• Can effectively manage and de-escalate challenging situations
• Demonstrates resilience, patience and excellent communication skills
• Is passionate about improving outcomes for vulnerable children and young people
• Holds GCSE Grade C/4 or above in English and Maths (essential)
• Relevant SEND, education or behavioural support qualifications are highly desirable

• Excellent CPD and specialist SEMH training opportunities
• A collaborative and welcoming school community
• A well-resourced specialist learning environment
• Opportunities for career progression and long-term development
• The chance to make a genuine difference to the lives of children with complex needs
• Potential for permanent opportunities
