We have a new opportunity to join a dynamic and progressive Freight Forwarder as Import Manager.
Our client is looking for an experienced Import Manager with a strong operational backgound, freight forwarding background and a proven ability to lead and develop teams.
• Minimum 7-10 years' experience within import, customs, freight forwarding or logistics operations.
• A minimum of 5 years' management experience, leading operational teams within a fast-paced forwarding or logistics environment
• Proven leadership capability, including coaching, performance management, employee development, succession planning, recruitment and team engagement.
• Experience managing departmental performance through KPIs, service levels, productivity measures, resource planning and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Strong commercial awareness, with responsibility for departmental budgets, cost control and P&L performance.
• Strong understanding of international freight forwarding operations, including air freight, customs brokerage and multimodal transport movements.
• Excellent knowledge of HMRC regulations, customs compliance requirements and import processes.
• Ability to act as the senior escalation point for operational, customs, compliance and customer service matters.
• Experience building and maintaining strong relationships with customers, carriers, customs authorities and overseas partners.
• Comfortable leading customer business reviews, supporting new customer implementations and working closely with commercial teams to drive growth.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with a customer-focused mindset and the ability to collaborate across multiple functions.
Role will include the following aspects:
•Provide day-to-day leadership, coaching, and support to direct reports and the wider team to achieve operational and business objectives.
•Conduct performance reviews, goal setting, and development planning for direct reports while supporting the growth and development of the wider team.
•Oversee recruitment, onboarding, training, and retention activities to ensure appropriate staffing levels and succession planning.
•Ensure the efficient and compliant processing of all import shipments in line with customer requirements and company standards.
•Maintain compliance with HMRC regulations, customs legislation, trade compliance requirements, and internal policies.
•Act as the primary escalation point for operational, customs, compliance, and customer service issues.
•Monitor departmental KPIs, productivity, service levels, and operational performance, implementing corrective actions where necessary.
•Lead the import department to achieve operational, financial, and budgetary targets through effective management of departmental P&L, resource utilization, cost control, and productivity performance
•Manage workload allocation and resource planning across the team to maximize efficiency and customer satisfaction.
•Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, customs authorities, carriers, and overseas partners.
•Develop, review, and implement standard operating procedures and continuous improvement initiatives.
Salary up to £65K plus car allowance.
