Job Title: Learning Support Assistant – Secondary
Location: Taunton
Pay Rate: £89 per day
Job Type: Part-time – Term Time Only (Temporary or Long-term)
Hours: 8.30 – 3.30pm (Monday to Friday)
Are you motivated to support young people with additional educational needs in reaching their potential? We are looking for a committed and adaptable Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to join a thriving secondary school in Taunton, working closely with students who may face a variety of challenges including autism, behavioural difficulties, and other SEND needs.
About the Role:
This is a fulfilling and varied role supporting students across Key Stages 3 and 4. You will work 1:1 and in small groups to ensure young people with additional needs feel supported, confident, and engaged in school life. You’ll help them access learning, stay focused in lessons, and develop socially and emotionally in a supportive and structured environment.
You will also be involved in mentoring, academic support, and encouraging independence — with a focus on both classroom learning and broader development.
Key Responsibilities:
• Provide 1:1 and small group support for students with a range of SEND needs
• Implement personalised learning strategies under the guidance of the SENCO
• Assist students in accessing lessons, managing behaviour, and staying on task
• Track and record pupil progress, liaise with staff and, when needed, external agencies or parents
• Provide feedback, encourage self-regulation, and help build student confidence
• Support students with the use of ICT and specialist resources
• Accompany pupils on educational visits and assist with supervision at breaks, exams, and school events
• Maintain high standards of care, confidentiality, and safeguarding at all times
Who We’re Looking For:
• Someone who is caring, patient, and emotionally resilient
• Experience working with young people with SEND or behavioural needs (in education or care)
• Ability to build positive, respectful relationships with teenagers and staff alike
• Good communication and organisation skills
• GCSEs (Grade 4/C or above) in English and Maths are essential
• A background understanding of the secondary curriculum is desirable
• Willingness to undertake training in behaviour support, safeguarding, and SEND practices
Why Join This School?
• Make a Difference – Help shape a young person’s confidence, learning and future
• Great Team Culture – Join a strong SEND team in a well-supported department
• Professional Development – Access to training, mentoring and CPD opportunities
• Stable Hours – 30.5 hours a week during term time only – a great balance
• Weekly Pay – Earn £89 per day, paid weekly
• Meaningful Work – Be part of a school community that genuinely values inclusion and care
If you’re a proactive, supportive individual who’s passionate about helping students thrive, we’d love to hear from you. Apply now to join a dedicated secondary school team in Taunton as a valued Learning Support Assistant.
