Description

Are you looking for a rewarding role where you can genuinely make a difference to children with additional needs? We are seeking a warm, patient and caring full-time Learning Support Assistant to join a specialist SEND school near Highbridge. You will support primary and secondary aged pupils with SEMH needs, autism and learning disabilities in their specialist provision.

This is a full-time role, starting February, with a permanent position available after an initial 16-week settling-in period. You will work 8:30am–3:30pm, five days a week, and be paid £13.70 per hour.

About the school:

The school is a specialist provision for pupils aged 7–19 with autism and associated complex needs, offering tailored educational, therapeutic and care support that empowers young people to build confidence, resilience and independence. It was judged Good in its most recent inspection, with strong relationships and personalised approaches helping pupils feel secure and achieve positive outcomes. Small class sizes and a supportive environment help staff build meaningful connections with every pupil.

What you’ll be doing:

Supporting pupils with SEMH needs, autism and learning disabilities in specialist lessons and activities

• Helping pupils access the curriculum and engage positively in learning
• Assisting with personal care and emotional support where needed
• Working closely with teachers and specialist staff to follow individual plans
• Building trust and rapport with young people who benefit from consistency and reassurance

We’re searching for someone who:

• Is kind, patient, calm and enjoys helping young people
• Brings empathy, respect and a positive attitude to every day
• Can work well in a team and adapt to the needs of individuals
• Has experience with young people (e.g., graduates, youth workers, sports coaches, support workers or previous TAs) — although your values and personality matter most
• Is excited about gaining valuable experience in a specialist school setting, whether you’re pursuing a career in education, mental health, youth work or support services

Why this role matters:

This is meaningful work supporting vulnerable young people in a nurturing, inclusive community. You’ll grow your skills, make a real impact and be part of a dedicated team helping pupils thrive.
