Description

Experienced SEND Teaching Assistant – 1:1 Outreach Support
Location: South Devon
Start Date: September 2025
Hours: Full time, 9:00am – 3:30pm (Monday to Friday)
Mileage: 45p per mile petrol allowance

Are you an experienced Teaching Assistant with a passion for making a meaningful difference in the lives of students who find mainstream education challenging? We are seeking a dedicated, confident and compassionate individual to join our specialist outreach team across the South Devon region.

This is a full-time role supporting learners on a 1:1 basis, focusing on delivering targeted English and Maths interventions outside the mainstream classroom setting. You will work directly with pupils who require additional academic and emotional support, helping to re-engage them in their education and build confidence in their learning journey.

The Role:
-Deliver 1:1 sessions in Maths and English to students who are currently disengaged from mainstream education.
-Establish positive, trusting relationships to support pupils' academic progress and personal development.
-Work independently and manage your own timetable, travelling between locations where needed (all within the Torquay area – mileage paid at 45p per mile).
-Maintain accurate records and liaise with teaching staff, SENCOs and other professionals to ensure cohesive support planning.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
-Previous experience working as a Teaching Assistant, ideally in a SEND or alternative provision setting.
-Strong behaviour management skills and a calm, empathetic approach.
-A good understanding of common learning difficulties (e.g. ADHD, ASD, SEMH).
-Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
-Confidence in delivering Maths and English at KS2 and/or KS3 level.
- A full UK driving licence and access to a reliable vehicle.

This role would suit an experienced TA or HLTA who thrives on seeing the impact of their support first-hand and is confident working 1:1 with pupils in varied settings. You will be part of a committed and supportive team with a shared focus on inclusion, engagement and positive outcomes for all learners.
